Today we allow the Bible to speak for itself about the greatness of God. We do not embrace popular opinion or the word on the street about who God is. We look directly to the truth to understand how great and awesome our God is. Our study takes us to Isaiah 40 and the phenomenal words of this prophet to us some 2,700 years later. What an encouragment these words are for us no matter where we find ourselves in our spiritual journey.
What would it look like if your life were “radically changed” by the greatness of God? What truths would you embrace more today than you did yesterday or how would you live differently, not for your own selfish desires, but for God’s glory. Today we begin a journey, as we call it, to the top of the mountain to understand some phenomenal truths about who God is; and as a result, our lives would be radically changed for him. We are headed to the top of the mountain – the question is, are you going to join us on this incredible journey?
Today we start the new year with a challenge for our fellowship. This is a theme for our church that we will continue to address throughout the year. Since 2006, we developed yearly themes upon which we set out to build our ministry. The impact and the challenge we can have in our sphere of influence to encourage people and offer hope is phenomenal. Our passion for the next 365 days center around this idea: As a church, “we must step outside the bounds of being safe, and be willing to change and rise up to the challenge in order to reach those around us, elevating His name and His glory in 2012?” This is our purpose and this is where our journey is taking us in the next year. The question is, will you be one of those willing to look beyond yourself and be used by Him in some amazing ways?
Many people tend to make New Year’s resolutions based upon what they want to do or think they should do instead of thinking through who they are. In Matthew 5, we read Jesus’ words that, as followers of Christ, we are salt and we are light. Matthew reminds us that our aim should be to be salt and light in order that others may see and glorify our Father in Heaven.
One of the greatest lone verses in all of Scripture which tells us who Jesus is, is found in the Old Testament in Isaiah 9:6. Isaiah penned these words some 740 years before Christ would arrive on the scene. Yet, his words not only point to the coming of Christ but what would come and do for all people if they embraced Him by faith. Tonight our challenge is about Jesus Christ as our Prince of Peace.
